Sport BC is a non-profit organization that encourages participation and development of sport and promotes the positive influences of sport within British Columbia. The Sport BC Awards annually highlight achievements in coaching, officiating, competing, leadership and influence in sport. BC Hockey athletes are eligible for awards in nine categories. Nominations must be submitted by the Branch office. For all awards, accomplishments from the previous calendar year from when the award is presented are considered.
Senior Female Athlete of the Year is awarded to a female amateur athlete competing on a team or in an individual team sport in British Columbia.
Senior Male Athlete of the Year is awarded to a male amateur athlete competing on a team or in an individual team sport in British Columbia.
Junior Athlete of the Year is awarded to a British Columbia amateur athlete who was 18 years old or younger on January 1 of the year being considered. This individual may have competed on a team or in an individual team sport.
Coach of the Year is awarded to an individual who has been responsible for coaching one or more amateur teams or individuals at any level of competition.
Official of the Year is awarded to an official who has been responsible for officiating amateur sport events at any level of athletic completion.
Team of the Year is awarded to an amateur team competing in a Sort BC sanctioned league. Per Sport BC guidelines, the term “team” refers to commonly known sports such as hockey, soccer, volleyball, etc. All-star teams do not qualify.
Harry Jerome Comeback Award is awarded to an amateur athlete in individual or team sport who made a comeback after suffering an unusual setback such as illness or injury.
Darryl Thompson Award is awarded to an individual who has contributed in an extraordinary way or over a long period of time to sport as a whole and / or has made a major contribution to all amateur sport in British Columbia. Recognition can be for contribution on a provincial, national or international scale. The award is named in honour of the late Daryl Thompson, former chair of Sport BC. He contributed to sport significantly as an athlete, coach and executive officer.
President’s Award is awarded to a volunteer from a Sport BC member organization who’s dedication, energy and commitment has had a significant impact on sport.
