Youth Programs - Vancouver Canucks Centre for BC Hockey
BC Hockey works in partnership with the Vancouver Canucks through the Canucks Centre for BC Hockey to bring opportunities to amateur hockey in British Columbia. The Centre aims to provide programs and initiatives supporting growth and development of coaches, players and fans.
The partnership is a cooperative effort in which each organization assists the other in the promotion, organization, development, administration, recognition and execution of programs at all levels of amateur hockey.
TEAM First Contest
– Minor hockey players and / or teams are invited to enter a contest that promotes the qualities exemplified by the
TEAM First Program
. Past winners have been able to participate in an exclusive on-ice event at GM Place. Fin and Vancouver Canucks players and alumni sometimes appear and interact with the winning teams at the event. Instructive sessions are run by BC Hockey course conductors and coaches.

Penalty Free Challenge
– As a part of BC Minor Hockey Week, minor hockey teams that play a penalty-free game during the week may submit their penalty free game sheet along with an entry form. One or more teams have been selected to participate in an exclusive on-ice event at GM Place. Fin and Vancouver Canucks players and alumni sometimes appear and interact with the winning teams at the event. Instructive sessions are run by BC Hockey course conductors and coaches.
Female Jamborees
– As a partner of the Female Jamborees, the Vancouver Canucks Centre for BC Hockey provides Canucks memorabilia for both events and helps with the administration of the jamboree in the Lower Mainland. In previous seasons, Fin and a Vancouver Canucks player have sometimes made appearances during the opening ceremonies in the Lower Mainland.
Chevy Mini Minor
– BC Hockey novice-aged minor hockey teams can enter to skate during a Vancouver Canucks intermission. BC Hockey Executive Members may have the opportunity to represent BC Hockey and meet with the participating teams for selected dates.
First Strides
– Initiation players can sign up for this one-day program of on-ice and off-ice activities at GM Place. Fin and Vancouver Canucks players and alumni have made appearances in the past. Instructive sessions are run by BC Hockey course conductors and coaches.
Coaching Day in BC
– This one-day event is valuable for coaches wishing to expand their coaching knowledge. Attendees get to watch the Vancouver Canucks game-day practice while one of the coaches explains the purpose of each drill. Then BC Hockey course conductors and coaches instruct minor hockey teams in on-ice drills. Teams of various ages perform in succession. Again, one of the course conductors wears a microphone so that they can explain each drill as it’s performed. Representative from BC Hockey and Hockey Canada also present material to the coaches in attendance.
Hockey Day in Canada
– Working in partnership with CBC, BC Hockey and the Vancouver Canucks Centre for BC Hockey bring opportunities to minor hockey players and teams in BC as a part of the Hockey Day in Canada celebration. In previous years teams have won trips to GM Place to watch the Vancouver Canucks game-day skate and attend that evening’s game, as well as attend a game-day meal with the Vancouver Canucks players and meet CBC on-air personalities.
Canucks SuperSkills
– In previous years, one lucky minor hockey team has been selected to appear on-ice with the Vancouver Canucks players and participate in the skills competition.
Public Service Announcements
– Vancouver Canucks players and coaches have recorded announcements concerning amateur hockey issues.
Community Corner Radio Appearances
– Through the partnership, BC Hockey has appeared on the Community Corner segment on Team 1040 Sports Radio to discuss issues important to amateur hockey.
Silverskate Awards
- Presented by the Vancouver Canucks Centre to the BC Hockey Championship team in each division at the representative levels, these awards celebrate the strong ties between minor and professional hockey.
Canucks Exercise Tips
– Vancouver Canucks players demonstrate various off-ice exercises that can improve an athlete’s on-ice performance.
