2018 BC Hockey Annual General Congress

June 8 - 10, 2018

Sun Peaks, BC

BC Hockey Celebrating 100 Years

On February 9, 1919 the British Columbia Amateur Hockey Association (now BC Hockey) was established at a meeting in the basement of the old Daily Province Newspaper building located at 142 East Hastings Street in old Gastown Vancouver, BC.

Hockey has been an integral part of the fabric for many people along Canada's west coast and so many key people, events and moments have taken place in BC and the Yukon.  BC Hockey plans to recognize and celebrate our past over the next year all while looking forward to growing the game at the grassroots level.

2015 General Session

Following a keynote presentation by Thompson Rivers University Athletic Director, Ken Olynyk, delegates will be lead through a workshop by Tracey Lorenson of Paragon Strategic.

The workshop will focus on the needs of local organizations and the ways BC Hockey might enhance services to meet these needs.  By examining what our organizations currently do well and the other things that require attention we can collectively build a plan towards a better product.

This workshop will be an excellent opportunity for association executives to play a role in designing a cooperative approach toward the future. It will give executives an opportunity to discuss initiatives with their peers in a learning sharing atmosphere.

Tracey Lorenson (BC, LL.B, CHRP, C Dir.) joined Paragon Strategic in 2006. She has been working with a diverse range of clients facilitating both departmental business and strategic planning sessions, including stakeholder consultation and assisting with developing action plans to assist managers in the execution of strategy.

About the AGM

The Annual General Meeting of BC Hockey is, as the name suggests, the main annual meeting of the members of BC Hockey. It is held Friday to Sunday, normally the fourth weekend in June. It is the only regularly scheduled meeting when the BC Hockey Executive Committee and its constituent committees (minor, junior, male senior / recreational, female senior / recreational) meet simultaneously.

Our Vision

To create the best possible business, interactive and social environment for BC Hockey members as they meet to serve six (6) primary purposes:

  1. to review the completed season
  2. to establish rules, regulations, bylaws, policy and budget directions for the coming seasons
  3. to elect the BC Hockey Executive Committee for the coming year
  4. to celebrate those gaining Championship status as well as those awarded for outstanding service
  5.  to allow an opportunity to educate and train volunteers for the coming season
  6. to create a sense of pride in their accomplishments and the organization

The AGM builds a dynamic organization that melds Hockey Canada decisions with BC Hockey Branch decisions into the organization’s strategic plan giving operational direction to the membership.

BC Hockey is a non-profit organization and member branch of Hockey Canada in charge of governing amateur hockey at all levels in British Columbia and the Yukon Territory.

Approximately 150 minor hockey associations, 55,000 players, 4,500 referees, 20,000 official volunteers and countless others make our great game possible here in Pacific Canada.
