Further to Bulletin 2014-039 distributed on September 5, 2014, please note the following reminder of October 15, 2014, for submission of information by your association.
BC Hockey Policy 1.36 sets out that all Minor Hockey Associations, Teams and Leagues are required to have a documented screening process and it is important to note that failure to comply with this policy will result in the cancellation of BC Hockey sanctioning for events hosted or operated by the Minor Hockey Association or the District Association.
An outline of the reporting requirements and resources available are below.
Policy 1.36 Association and League Screening Process
All BC Hockey Minor Hockey Associations and District Associations are required to submit an outline of your organization’s screening process annually. We ask that this be submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org by October 15, 2014. In the future you will be able to submit your organization’s screening process by uploading the document during the submission of your membership application.
The Hockey Canada Screening Toolbox (http://members.hockeycanada.ca/screening/) is a useful resource to aid in the development and/or improvement of your screening process.
The Ministry of Justice provides a service for organizations that have volunteers who work with children or vulnerable adults called the Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP). Upon registration, the CRRP will provide criminal record checks free-of-charge. For more information and how to apply, please visit http://www.pssg.gov.bc.ca/criminal-records-review/index.htm.
