The National Coach Mentorship Program (NCMP) provides the human resource for coaches wishing to take their coaching to the next level. The purpose of the Mentorship program is a result of direct action Hockey Canada and its member Branches have taken since the Coaching Association of Canada’s evaluation of the NCCP in 1995 and the Molson Open Ice Summit on player development of 1999.
In both events, it was determined that the mentoring of coaches at all levels and specifically minor hockey is the key to the future growth of coaching in Canada. The ultimate outcome is improved athlete development through the establishment of a national coach mentoring program.
An essential part of the National Coach Mentorship Program is Specialty Clinics. These clinics aim at teaching specific skills that coaches can instantly transfer into a team practice. For more information, and to book a Specialty Clinic please visit our Specialty Clinics site.
BC Hockey Skills Summit
BC Hockey in conjunction with Hockey Canada is proud to present the first ever Branch Skill Summit for Coaches. This isn’t your average Coaching Clinic, we are teaching skills. Specifically, we are teaching our delegates how to teach specific skills to their team. This has been identified as “what coach’s want” and a component that regular clinics don’t emphasize. This seminar, which is based on the material in the National Coach Mentorship Program (NCMP) and created by Hockey Canada, will train coaches from around the province in the specific skills of:
· Creating offense/Creating defense
· Puck control/Skating
· Creative thinking/Small Area Games
· Special Teams
Coaches are placed in groups and instructed on the above skills by a BC Hockey trained Course Conductor, Hockey Canada representatives and special guest(s). Each group will attend on ice sessions, classroom sessions and observation sessions. Delegates who attend this seminar will receive Coaching Credits which will be listed on their permanent Coaching record on the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR).
