NCCP COACH COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR COACH EDUCATION

All courses listed below are entry-level courses, therefore do not require prerequisites. Entrance into the course is determined by the age of the coach (minimum of 16 yrs.) and competitive level of the athlete that the coach is currently coaching. Choices listed below need to be considered by each Minor Hockey Association, based on the needs of the community.

The BC Hockey 2013 NCCP High Performance I Seminar will be held in Penticton, BC from July 28, 2013 to August 2, 2013.

BC Hockey will combine the technical aspects of coaching with an on-ice application by integrating the seminar with the prestigious Okanagan Hockey School – Midget Pacific Summer Showcase. In addition to classroom lectures and task, the selected coaches will coordinate and execute on-ice practices and participate on the bench in game situations. The NCCP High Performance I coaches will be guided by some of the best coaches/skill instructors within BC and Canada.

The NCCP High Performance I Seminar is held every two (2) years in BC and is open to coaches who are actively coaching or have the intention of coaching Midget AAA (MML) or higher and have significant coaching experience. High Performance coaching certification is also required to coach any provincial team for BC Hockey.

National Coaching Certification Program
Apply to become a course conductor.

The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is a coach training and certification program offered in both official languages across Canada. NCCP workshops are designed to meet the needs of all types of coaches, from the first-time coach to the head of the national team.

The NCCP is currently undergoing change that will affect all sports in Canada that deliver coach certification programs. BC Hockey in conjunction with Hockey Canada has been working over the past five years redesigning the program. The 2006-2007 season will be the second year of full implementation of the new program. The major change coaches will notice is that no longer will all coaches start at one entry point (Level 1) and progress through the system. Coaches will now enter a “stream” of coaching relative to the athletes that they are currently working with.
