The BC Winter Games take place every second season at the end of February (2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014).
In 2008 a change was made to Ice Hockey participation at the BC Winter Games. Male Hockey was dropped from the 2010 event in Terrace as the U16 BC Cup was a more favorable option for Under 16 Male High Performance players. The 2008 games in Kimberly/Cranbrook also marked the last time Female U18 players would be participating in the event. Beginning in 2010 Zone Teams will be selected from the Female U16 Zone Tryout Camps, which will take place in each District the first weekend in January.
BC Hockey will also host these Zone Camps in odd numbered years where players will be selected to participate in the Female U16 BC Cup.
BC Hockey and the BC Games Society will revisit the ability of including Male Ice Hockey in the 2012 BC Winter Games.
