2012 Male U16 BC Cup Game Action

The 2012 Male U16 BC Cup is underway in West Kelowna, BC at the Royal LePage Place. Two (2) games were played on Thursday evening with two (2) games to be played on Friday. The event is being held from April 12-15, 2012.
 
 
Game One (1) – Team Canucks 3 - Team Bruins 4
 
The Canucks and Bruins opened the Male U16 BC Cup with an exciting end-to-end game. The Bruin’s Daniel Nault (Penticton, BC) scored with 15 seconds remaining to give the Bruins the 4-3 win. The Canucks had goals from San Chung (Coquitlam, BC), Ty Ronning (Burnaby, BC) and Tyler Soy (Surrey, BC). Trevor Gagne (Prince George, BC) and Steven Fiust (Kelowna, BC) scored a pair for the Bruins.
 
Game Two (2) – Team Leafs 5 - Team Wild 1
 
The Leafs jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead with goals from Andrew Jack (Duncan, BC), Chaz Reddekopp (Westbank, BC) and Mitchell Cameron (West Vancouver, BC). Before the first period was over the Wild’s Blake Holowaty (Penticton, BC) cut the lead to two (2). The Leafs added to their lead in the second period with a beautiful short-handed goal by Jansen Harkins (North Vancouver, BC). Carson Richards (Enderby, BC) added a goal late in the third period to give the Leafs the 5-1 victory.
 
Game Three (3) – Team Avalanche 4 - Team Sabres 3
 
After a scoreless opening period, the Avalanche opened the scoring early in the second with a goal from Josh Wesley (Surrey, BC). The lead was short-lived, Addison Brazian (Kamloops, BC) scored to notch the game at one (1). The Sabre’s Jakob Stukel (Surrey, BC) added one (1) more in the second to give his team the 2-1 lead. Mid-way through the third period the Avalanche exploded with three (3) unanswered goals, goal scorers were: Jesse Roach (Quesnel, BC), Tanner Campbell (Kelowna, BC) and Colin Bell (Terrace, BC). Bazian added his second of the game late but that was as close as the Sabres would get.
 
Game Four (4) – Team Flyers 2 - Team Stars 1 (Shootout)
 
The Flyers and Stars played a close and competitive game. After a scoreless opening period, the Flyer’s Tristan Simm (Cranbrook, BC) scored with four (4) minutes remaining in the second period. The score remained tied until the final minute when the Star’s Chris Seto (Surrey, BC) scored to tie the game at one (1). A shootout was required and the Flyers picked up the 2-1 shootout victory.
 
Game Five (5) – Team Wild 4 - Team Bruins 2
 
The Wild rebounded to pick up their first win of the Male U16 BC Cup defeating the Bruins, 4-2. Hayden Chase (Vernon, BC) opened the scoring for the Bruins, but the Wild tied it before the period was over with a goal from Colton Faucher (Prince George, BC). Parker Wotherspoon (Surrey, BC) and Ricky Bateman (Fort St. John, BC) put the Wild up 3-1 early in the second. Jonny Evans (Delta, BC) from the Bruins cut the lead to one (1) before the period was over. Jonathan Irving (Coquitlam, BC) added a goal late in the third for the Wild to give them the 4-2 win. Matt Barzal (Coquitlam, BC) led all scorers with three (3) assists.
 
Game Six (6) – Team Canucks 3 - Team Leafs 4
 
The Leafs continued to roll and handed the Canucks their 2nd straight loss at the 2012 Male U16 BC Cup. Jansen Harkins (North Vancouver, BC) opened the scoring early in the first for the Leafs, but Jack Lofroth (Terrace, BC) scored soon thereafter to tie the game at one (1). Before the period was over Mitchell Cameron (West Vancouver, BC) scored to restore the lead for the Leafs. The teams exchanged goals in the 2nd period; the Canuck’s Jordan Topping (Nanaimo, BC) and Leaf’s Jansen Harkins were the goal scorers. The Leafs made it a two (2) goal lead at the six (6) minute mark of the third after Chaz Reddekopp (Westbank, BC) scored from the point. The Canuck’s Tyler Soy (Surrey, BC) added one late, but that was as close as they would get.
 
Game Seven (7) – Team Sabres 3 - Team Flyers 2 (Shootout)
 
Early in the first period Glenn Gawdin (Richmond, BC) scored to give the Flyers the 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 until Bard Morrison (Westside, BC) tied the game four (4) minutes into the second period. Gawdin responded for the Flyers to restore their lead. Before the second period was over Jakob Stukel (Surrey, BC) notched the game at two (2). After a scoreless third period a shootout was required and the Sabres scored the lone goal picking up the crucial win.
 
Game Eight (8) – Team Stars 7 - Team Avalanche 5
The Stars and Avalanche put on a scoring showcase for the fans and scouts in attendance at the Male U16 BC Cup. The Stars edged the Avs 7-5. Chris Seto (Surrey, BC) and Ryan Wilkinson (Richmond, BC) finished with two (2) goals each for the Stars. Leading the Avalanche with two (2) points was Joe Surgenor (Courtenay, BC).
 
Game Nine (9) – Team Bruins 3 - Team Leafs 1
After a scoreless opening period, Devon Sideroff (Summerland) scored at the five (5) minute mark to put the Bruins up 1-0. With a minute remaining in the period, Mitchell Newsome (Surrey, BC) scored for the Leafs to tie the game at one (1). A few minutes into the third period the Bruins restored the lead with a goal from Alex Hartman (Fort St. John). The Bruins added one (1) late to win 3-1.
 
Game Ten (10) – Team Wild 3 - Team Canucks 4 (shooutout)
 
The Wild opened the scoring late in the first period with a goal from Jesse Wallace (Kimberley, BC). Late in the second period the Canucks scored two (2) goals in under a minute; goal scorers were San Chung (Coquitlam, BC) and Max James (Kamloops, BC). The Wild responded with a pair of goals mid-way through the third to take a 3-2 lead; goal scorers were Brady Reagan (Okanagan Falls, BC) and Matt Barzal (Coquitlam, BC). With a minute to play Ty Ronning (Burnaby, BC) scored to tie the game at three (3) putting the game into a shootout. In the 9th round Trevor Owens (Victoria, BC) scored to give the Canucks their first win of the event.
 
Game Eleven (11) – Team Stars 1 - Team Sabres 4
 
After a scoreless opening period the Sabre’s Benjamin Paul (Prince George, BC) scored to put his team on top 1-0 in the second period. Early in the third period the Sabres extended their lead to three (3) with goals from Brad Morrison (Westside, BC) and Jordan Funk (Surrey, BC). The Stars cut the lead to two (2) with a goal from Trent Bell (Nanoose Bay, BC), but this was as close as they would get. Morrison’s second of the game was an empty-netter giving his team the 4-1 victory.
 
Game Twelve (12) – Team Avalanche 1 - Team Flyers 2
 
Game Thirteen (13) - Team Wild 3 - Avalanche 8
 
Game Fourteen (14) - Team Canucks 6 - Stars 7
 
Game Fifteen (15) - Team Leafs 2 -Flyers 1 (Overtime)
 
Game Sixteen (16) - Team Bruins vs. Sabres
 
The BC Hockey High Performance U16 Program is designed as an introduction to BC Hockey’s High Performance Program, exposing players, coaches and officials to short term competition. The Under 16 Program also acts as a precursor to the BC Hockey High Performance U17 Program, which is used to identify and train players and team personnel for Provincial, Regional and National Teams.
