Simon Ferguson Named Okanagan Major Midget Head Coach
Friday, May 11, 2018

Simon Ferguson (Kelowna) has been named the new head coach of the Okanagan Rockets Major Midget League (MML) replacing Eric Blais (Kelowna) who will coach the Okanagan-Central Zone Bantam AA team.

This will be Ferguson’s second stint as head coach of the Rockets after being the team’s bench boss in 2014-2015. Most recently he served as head coach with the Banff Hockey Academy and has been a coach and hockey director with the Hong Kong Typhoons.

Ferguson is also the president of the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Kelowna Rockets Alumni Association after spending two (2) seasons with the Rockets winning the Memorial Cup in 2004. He played professional hockey in the American Hockey League (AHL), winning the Calder Cup in 2010, along with the ECHL and in Europe.

The MML was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year-old players an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Championship.
