Hockey Canada announced last week the list of goaltenders invited to attend the National Women’s Goaltending Camp. BC’s Kimberley Newell (Burnaby, BC) and Michaela Logan (North Vancouver, BC) were invited to attend the camp. The Goaltending Camp is being held June 7-10, 2012 in Calgary, Alberta.
The camp will include U18, U22 and Senior aged athletes and is the next phase of Hockey Canada’s summer program following the strength and conditioning camp in May.
Kimberley Newell (Burnaby, BC): This past season, Newell was a standout in net for the Kootenay Ice of the BC Major Midget League. Newell will be completing high school early to attend Princeton University.
Michaela Logan (North Vancouver, BC): Logan is currently a goaltender at the Pursuit of Excellence, and she attended the 2012 Female U18 Provincial Camp. In addition to hockey, Logan is a competitive swimmer. Unfortunately Logan was unable to attend the camp.
“We look forward to welcoming many of our top young female goaltenders from across the country to our brand-new training facilities in Calgary,” said Kalli Quinn, director of female national teams for Hockey Canada. “This camp is an incredible opportunity for them to develop their skills with our top-notch instructors, and will help prepare them for their upcoming seasons.”
Instructors for the camp include Matt Cockell (Winnipeg, Man./Brandon, WHL), Joe Johnston (Lower Sackville, N.S./Dalhousie University, CIS), Andy Nowicki (Red Deer, Alta.), Perry Wilson (Windsor, Ont./University of Windsor, CIS), and Canada’s National Women’s Team alumna Danielle Dubé (Vancouver, BC).
