BC Hockey announced August 9, 2012 the roster for the Female U18 Team BC which will be competing at the 2012 U18 National Women’s Championship in Dawson Creek, BC from November 7-12, 2012.
The final Team BC roster was selected at the Team BC summer development camp with the National Kazakhstan women’s team, July 25-29, 2012 in Salmon Arm, BC. Twenty-four (24) players were invited to the camp and the team was selected following Saturday’s game.
“The camp with Team Kazakhstan was a huge success. The majority of the team had never been to Canada or to a camp of this nature,” commented Nancy Wilson, Director of Operations for Team BC. “Kazakhstan is an older and more experienced team but BC proved they have a lot of talent. These were their first games together and they were highly competitive.”
Team Kazakhstan played three (3) games against Team BC, beating them two (2) games to one (1). On Friday night, Team BC edged Team Kazakhstan 2-1 but Kazakhstan came back on Saturday night beating the home team 5-1 due mainly to a solid power play effort. On Sunday morning, Kazakhstan again beat Team BC 4-2 with the last goal being scored into an empty net.
A banquet was held on Saturday night for all Team BC players, family and the Kazakhstan team. Presentations were made by the Team BC and Kazakhstan coaching staff. “Although the Kazakhstan players did not speak English It was quite evident that many good friendships were made over the four (4) day camp,” said Wilson.
