Female Officiating Camp
Friday, September 14, 2012

BC Hockey will be hosting an all Female Referee Camp for 36 female officials from November 22-25, 2012 in Kamloops, BC. Officials will receive classroom instruction, an on-ice session and hear from two (2) guest speakers. In addition, attendees have an opportunity to officiate four (4) to six (6) hockey games and will be supervised by some of the best female officials in BC. The program is under the direction of BC Hockey Female Officiating Coordinator, Willy Saari.

Whether you have just started officiating or have done it for many years, BC Hockey/Hockey Canada certified female officials of all ages are welcome to attend. Scheduled games will vary among levels encompassing Atom to Midget Rep female hockey.

The camp instructors are all experienced officiating hockey at high levels. Kayla Keeping has officiated seven (7) national championships and currently officiates female midget and CIS. Jamie Scriver has officiated at the ESSO Cup, the pre-Olympic games and the Female Midget AAA finals for the last five (5) years. Sandra Lowe has officiated the BC Winter Games and pre-Olympic games. Willy Saari is the current coordinator of the Female Referee Development for BC Hockey.

Greg Hermiston, a BC Hockey High performance coach who currently scouts for Hockey Canada and Rhonda Eden, athlete, registered holistic nutritionist and personal trainer, are the two (2) guest speakers.

BC Hockey, as a member Branch of Hockey Canada, uses the Hockey Canada Officiating Program to train and evaluate officials working within BC and Yukon. The program has opportunities for everyone from the Initiation at Level I, through to the High Performance Levels V and VI.
