Sunday, April 20, 2014

Team Stars captured the 2014 Male U16 BC Cup with a 4-0 victory over Team Avalanche in the Championship Game.  The 2014 Male U16 BC Cup was held at the Shaw Centre in Salmon Arm, BC from April 17-20, 2014.

The Stars dominated the opening period and took a 2-0 lead into the second period.  The goal scorers for the Stars were Tyson Lin (Vancouver, BC) and Jordan Bellerive (North Vancouver, BC).  Early in the second period the Stars added to their lead with a hard working goal from Tanner Verluis (North Vancouver, BC).  Later in the 2nd period, Bellerive scored his second of the game on the Power Play with a great top corner shot.  Matteo Paler Chow (Vancouver, BC) shut the door in net for the Stars and they skated away with a 4-0 victory.

Earlier in the day the Kings defeated the Sabres 1-0, the Penguins topped the Wild 4-1 and the Bruins defeated the Flyers 6-3.

The next stage in the selection process of Team BC will be the 2014 Male U16 Provincial Camp that will be held July 9-13, 2013 in Nanaimo, BC. The players attended Provincial Camp will be announced in two (2) weeks.

The Male U16 BC Cup offers the top male players in the BC Hockey High Performance U16 Program the unique experience of competing with the best players in their age group from across the Province. The objective of the Program is to enhance the overall performance of BC athletes, coaches and officials in high level sporting events.

Some notable players that have participated in the Male U16 BC Cup include:
Brent Seabrook – Chicago Blackhawks – Team Greater Vancouver
Brandon McMillan – Anaheim Ducks – Team Fraser River/Delta
Brett Connolly – Tampa Bay Lightning – Team North East

The BC Hockey High Performance U16 Program is designed as an introduction to BC Hockey’s High Performance Program, exposing players, coaches and officials to short term competition. The Under 16 Program also acts as a precursor to the BC Hockey High Performance U17 Program, which is used to identify and train players and team personnel for Provincial, Regional and National Teams.
