Reinhart and Krause Awarded 2015 Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards
Friday, March 13, 2015
Sport BC announced the athletes, coaches and officials who were the successful recipients of the 2015 Athlete of the Year Awards, hosted in Vancouver, BC on March 12, 2015.  Among those awarded were BC Hockey player Sam Reinhart (West Vancouver) and BC Hockey Officiating Program official, mentor and leader Larry Krause (Abbotsford).

Reinhart was awarded the Male Junior Athlete of the Year, which recognizes extraordinary athletic performance by a male junior athlete who is competing on a team or in an individual sport in BC.  He won the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy for the Western Hockey League’s (WHL) Player of the Year and also received the Brad Hornung Trophy, the league’s most sportsmanlike player.  Reinhart was also voted as a first team all-star and set a team record for points as captain of the Kootenay Ice, with 36 goals and 69 assists for a total 105 points.  He most recently won gold with Team Canada at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship where he was just one (1) of two (2) 18 year olds on the team.

Krause was presented with the President’s Award, which is awarded to an individual who represents the spirit of volunteerism and whose dedication, energy and commitment contributes to the development of sport.  He plays an integral role with the structure of the BC Hockey Officiating Program, of which he has been involved with for over three (3) decades.  Krause has led the way when it comes to enhancing and standardizing the certification experience for officials at all levels.  He has served BC Hockey as an Officiating Above Minor Supervisor, High Performance Lead Course Conductor and coordinator of the Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) Instructional Staff.  His most recent role as the Officiating Minor Development Coordinator has helped the program leap forward.

The Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards is the longest standing sport recognition event in Canada. Awards in 18 different categories are given each year to athletes, coaches and officials for the performance and contribution to sport in our province.  The awards play a valuable role in nurturing athlete success and recognizing BC’s growing talent.  For more information and a complete list of winners, please visit the Sport BC website.
