Two BC Hockey Officials Selected to Officiate National Women’s Championship

Two (2) BC Hockey female officials have been selected to officiate at the National Women’s Under-18 Championship underway in Quebec City, Quebec from November 1-5, 2017.

Those officials selected are:

Cydnie Rice (28) – Kelowna, BC-Referee

Megan Howes (19) – Burnaby, BC-Linesperson

Rice, originally from the Windermere Valley Minor Hockey Association (MHA), as a Hockey Canada level four (4) official. She is currently officiating out of Kelowna as a referee and linesperson in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) and as a referee in BC Hockey’s Major Midget League (MML) and Female Midget AAA league (FMAAA). Cydnie has instructed at BC Hockey’s Osoyoos Summer Officiating School and mentors within BC Hockey’s newly formed Female Officiating Development Program. She has previously officiated Hockey Canada events including; the ESSO Cup (2013, 2017), Canada Winter Games (2015), CIS Championship (2015) and the Western Shield Championship (2016).

From Burnaby MHA, Howes is a level three (3) official skating at the FMAAA, CSSHL and Canada West levels as both a referee and linesperson. Megan has instructed at the BC Hockey Osoyoos Summer Officiating School as well as serving as a BC Hockey certification instructor in both the local and super clinic settings. For the 2016-2017 season, she was the BC Hockey recipient of the Hockey Canada “Most Promising” Official award. With experience in multiple BC Hockey Championships and participating in the 2017 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships, the National Women’s U18 Championship event will be Megan’s first official Hockey Canada assignment.
