BC Hockey announced that Brandon Dent of the Cariboo Cougars has been named the Major Midget League (MML) Player of the Month for December, 2017. The 5’6” forward from Prince George, BC had an incredible December totaling 17 points (3 goals, 14 assists) in only six (6) games.
Dent, 16, had 16 points coming into December and doubled his point total to 33 points on the season with 12 goals and 21 assists, good for tenth best in the MML. He had a pair of four (4) point games and a trio of three (3) point games in December.
Off the ice, Dent is a peer tutor with the Prince George Secondary School female hockey program and volunteers his time with the Prince George Minor Hockey Association.
Dent was chosen from a high-calibre list of other nominees, including:
- Matthew Konrad (Fraser Valley Thunderbirds),
- Tyler Horstmann (Greater Vancouver Canadians),
- Simon Nemethy (Kootenay Ice),
- Cole Scwebius (Okanagan Rockets),
- Ethan Brandwood (South Island Royals),
- Nolan Krogfoss (Valley West Hawks)
- Logan Terness (Vancouver North East Chiefs).
The MML was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year-olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Championship taking place in Sudbury, Ontario April 23-29, 2018.
