Team BC Male made an incredible comeback and defeated Team Saskatchewan 6-5 in overtime to win the 2018 National Aboriginal Hockey Championship (NAHC) in Membertou, Nova Scotia.
Team BC fell behind 3-0 after the first period and were down 5-2 to Saskatchewan after 40 minutes of play. Team BC scored three (3) third period goals to tie the game including scoring with one (1) second left to play in regulation on a goal from Dylan Devers (Chilliwack, BC). Devers, an affiliate player of the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds of the BC Hockey Major Midget League (MML), would again be the hero in overtime, scoring to give Team BC the 6-5 gold medal win. Haydn Delorme (Port Moody, BC) would lead Team BC with 14 points, including nine (9) goals and five (5) assists in six (6) games.
Team BC Female also had a strong tournament, however, they were on the wrong side of an overtime decision, falling 4-3 to Saskatchewan in the bronze medal game despite scoring two (2) third period goals to tie the game. Jade Ridgewell (Delta, BC) led Team BC with six (6) goals and seven (7) points in six (6) tournament games.
