Registration Open for Female Under 14 Training Camps
Thursday, July 22, 2010
BC Hockey announced Thursday, July 22 that registration is now open for the Female Under 14 Training Camps held in late August and early September in each of the six (6) Branch Zones. This is the third season that BC Hockey will be running developmental camps.
Register Now
The BC Hockey Female Design Model adopted in 2007, identified the need to introduce female athletes at this age level to areas of on-ice skill development and off-ice training, allowing them to be successful regardless of the path they choose in hockey.
The U14 program will be developmental in nature, no teams will be selected. The specific goals of the program are:
To introduce young female athletes to the High Performance Program, specifically in the areas of on-ice skill development and off-ice training using age and developmentally appropriate materials and strategies.
T
o provide a learning environment that is fun and challenging, one that will inspire the athletes to continue in the High Performance Program and prepare them for future challenges at the U16 and U18 levels.
To continue to support the athlete throughout the year by providing updated information on the BC Hockey web site in the areas noted above that will be valuable to the athletes, their parents and their club team coaches.
To identify and develop hockey leaders and future high performance staff members in the local community by providing opportunities to participate in camp delivery.
To continually review the program by keeping current with the most up to date materials and information that will allow for continual growth and development.
To bridge the gap between development strategies and commitment in the High Performance Program and the various club team programs.
The Female U14 Training Camp is a weekend camp where athletes will learn skills and strategies to prepare them for the upcoming hockey season. Included will be fitness education and an introduction to our testing, a parent seminar and on-ice skill development.

An integral part of this program will be the involvement of the club coaches so that everyone is on-side with the necessary development characteristics of this phase (Training to Train). The program is designed to involve minor hockey coaches so that they can take the concepts learned at the training camps and continue throughout their seasons. Coaches are asked to please contact the District Coordinator in their area if they are willing to assist.
