Please note that the policy regarding Association and League Screening Process has been adjusted by the BC Hockey Executive Committee effective immediately. Action is required by BC Hockey Minor Hockey Associations and District Associations to ensure Hockey Canada insurance coverage is in place.
Background
In 2011 Hockey Canada and BC Hockey passed a policy that mandated Associations, Teams and Leagues to have a documented screening process. Since this time BC Hockey has been notified of instances where our members have not adhered to the policy. In light of these concerns, additional wording has been added to Policy 1.36 to ensure this requirement is in place.
Updated Policy
1.36 ASSOCIATION AND LEAGUE SCREENING PROCESS
BC Hockey requires that all Minor Hockey Associations, Teams and Leagues have a documented screening process. An outline of such documentation is to be filed with BC Hockey annually. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in the cancellation of BC Hockey sanctioning for events hosted or operated by the Minor Hockey Association, Team or League.
Note: Unsanctioned events are not eligible for coverage under the Hockey Canada Insurance Program.
Reporting Requirement
All BC Hockey Minor Hockey Associations and District Associations are required to submit your organization’s screening process annually. In the future you will be able to submit your organization’s screening process by uploading the document during the submission of your membership application. We ask that this be submitted via email to info@bchockey.net by October 15, 2014. The Hockey Canada Screening Toolbox (http://members.hockeycanada.ca/screening/) is a useful resource to aid in the development and improvement of your screening process.
Should you have any questions please contact your District or Divisional Director or the BC Hockey office at info@bchockey.net.
