On December 25, 2015 the movie “Concussion” will be released in North American movie theatres. The movie’s premise is on the issue of concussions within the National Football League (NFL) and a doctor’s discovery of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).
While the movie’s focus is on football and the NFL, it is likely that hockey may be drawn into the media attention generated by publicity surrounding the movie. Due to the sensitive nature of the topic and its potential effect on the recruitment and retention of minor hockey players, it is important that we work together to ensure that our messaging to the media is consistent and appropriate.
We are therefore requesting that if you or a member of your Association is contacted by the media regarding this movie or related topics, that you offer no comment and please direct all inquiries to Sean Orr (sorr@bchockey.net) at the BC Hockey office.
If you have any questions regarding this directive please contact me.
