Please note that, at the request of Respect Group Inc, the expiration date for Respect in Sport (RIS) Activity Leaders certification will be adjusted from the current five (5) year expiration date to a five (5) season expiration date.
Under this new setup, rather than the RIS certification expiring exactly five (5) years from the individual’s completion date, certified participants will have a five (5) season window where all RIS certifications expire on July 31 of the fifth season. The July 31 expiry date is consistent with the other Risk Management certification expiry dates such as Hockey University – Online Safety (HCSP) and Criminal Record Checks.
The good news is that you do not have to take any action as part of this procedural change, and all BC Hockey participants with RIS certifications expiring during the 2018-2019 season will have their status extended to July 31, 2019.
This principle of extension is applicable to all participants who have completed RIS certifications prior to the date of this bulletin. A chart has been provided below to outline the new expiry dates for all BC Hockey participants currently certified in RIS. Participant records on the Hockey Canada Registry will be updated to the standardized expiry dates for RIS prior to July 31, 2019.
