The 2014-15 BC Major Midget League Championship series is underway in Prince George, BC with the Cariboo Cougars taking on the Vancouver North East Chiefs. The best of three series will determine the League Champion and who will represent BC in the Pacific Midget Regional Championship.
The opening frame was a showcase of fast paced, end to end action. The Cougars were on the board first with a Power Play marker from Colton Thomas mid-way through the period. The Cougars continued the momentum into the 2nd period with a shot from Mitchell Williams that went off the post and then off the Chiefs defender to give his team the 2-0 lead. The lead was short lived as the Chiefs offence awoke and exploded for three (3) goals in three (3) minutes. Goals scored for the Chiefs were Johnson and Chung on the Power Play with Wong providing the go ahead marker at even strength.
The Cougars and Chiefs exchanged goals early in the 3rd period courteous of the MML Player of the Month in October, Austin Gray and Player of the Month in February, Caleb Fantillo scoring two (2).
The Pacific Regional Championship will take place in British Columbia on April 3 - 5, 2015, where the BC MML champion will host the Alberta AAA Midget Hockey League champion in a best-of-three (3) series to determine the Pacific Representative at the 2015 TELUS Cup, which will be held in Rivière-du-Loup, Québec, from April 20-26, 2015.
The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
