The South Island Royals of the BC Major Midget League (MML) have announced that Scott Hawthorne (Saanichton) will take over the head coaching duties for the team replacing Adam Geric (Victoria).
Hawthorne spent last season as an assistant coach with the Royals and he has previously spent time as an assistant coach with the Saanich Braves of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL), and the Victoria Grizzlies of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). Scott has also been involved as a coach with the Saanich Minor Hockey Association (MHA).
Prior to coaching, Hawthorne played for the Peninsula Panthers, and the Saanich Braves of the VIJHL and the Victoria Salsa of the BCHL.
The MML was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year-old players an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Championship.
