Jacob Mangone (Abbotsford) has been named the inaugural head coach of the Greater Vancouver Canadians Minor Midget team.
Mangone coached the Langley Girls Ice Hockey Association (MHA) Bantam team during the 2017-2018 season. Previously he coached with Coquitlam MHA from 2011-2016. Mangone has owned and operated his own contracting business since 2012.
Mangone joins the Canadians staff alongside Garret Hohl (Vancouver) who serves as the Canadians’ general manager and Phil Alalouf (Tsawwassen), head coach of the Major Midget team. Hohl is entering his second season as Canadians general manager while Alalouf has been with Greater Vancouver since 2013.
The BC Hockey Minor Midget League will begin play in 2018-2019 and gives an opportunity for 15 year-old players to develop with other athletes of the same age and is affiliated with the MML.
The MML was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year-old players an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Championship.
