Dan Haylow (Peachland) has been named the inaugural head coach of the Okanagan Rockets Minor Midget team.
Haylow has experience coaching in BC Hockey’s Major Midget League (MML) with the North Island Silvertips from 2007-2009 and he has spent time in various coaching and management roles with the Oceanside Generals and Comox Valley Glacier Kings in the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL). Haylow served as an assistant coach with BC’s Male U16 team that competed in the 2008 Nagano Cup.
As a player, Haylow played Junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Peterborough Petes and the Cornwall Royals before captaining the University of Guelph’s team to the Queen’s Cup. Haylow was named the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Rookie of the Year in 1991.
Haylow joins the Okanagan staff alongside Rob Evers (West Kelowna) who serves as the Rockets general manager and Simon Ferguson (Kelowna), head coach of the MML team.
The BC Hockey Minor Midget League will begin play in 2018-2019 and gives an opportunity for 15 year-old players to develop with other athletes of the same age and is affiliated with the MML.
