BC Hockey announced on Friday, May 3, 2019, that the Cariboo Cougars Bantam AAA team based out of Prince George, BC will participate in the Bantam AAA BC Hockey Zone Pilot Project for the upcoming 2019 - 2020 season.
Cariboo joins the North Island, Okanagan and Lower Mainland zones that have previously committed to participate in the pilot project next season. The Cariboo AAA zone program will be managed by Trevor Sprague while Mirsad Mujcin will be the Bantam AAA team’s head coach.
Currently, the Major Bantam League will include teams from the Lower Mainland (Vancouver North West Hawks, Vancouver North East Chiefs, Greater Vancouver Canadians, Fraser Valley Thunderbirds and Valley West Giants), the North Island Silvertips (Nanaimo), the Cariboo Cougars (Prince George) and the Okanagan Rockets (Kelowna).
The region’s Bantam AA team, the North Central Bobcats, that draws players from the North Central and North West zones will participate in the BC Hockey Bantam AA Zone League. Players from the North East District who are interested in playing for the Bantam AAA Program are eligible to submit a tryout request to zone@bchockey.net.
More information regarding coaching staff and a tentative schedule will be available in the future.
The Major Bantam League (MBL) is comprised of a 30-game season and features two (2) Showcase Weekends. The schedule was built to have long weekend breaks and bye-weeks so players can participate in Major Bantam tournaments. An MBL tournament will be hosted in Kelowna around the MML Showcase Weekend in the 2019 - 2020 season.
