BC Hockey would like to congratulate Thomas Heemskerk for being selected as the Major Midget League player of the month for October. Heemskerk defends the goal for the Fraser Valley Bruins and had a 5-3-1 record with three shutouts during the month. He also had a 3.10 GAA and .931 save percentage during that span.
In addition to being a skilled athlete, Heemskerk is a leader and mentor on the team. He also gives to the community through his church involvement.
“Thomas is a mature player and is able to lead by example,” said Fraser Valley Bruins Head Coach Pat Ansell. “He has accepted this role quietly and yet continues to perform at a very high level.”
Heemskerk will also be representing BC at the Canada Winter Games in Whitehorse, YT in late February and early March 2007. He will be sharing net minding duties with Martin Jones.
As player of the month, Heemskerk will receive a gift from Mission-Itech.
The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
