Ten (10) of the league’s 11 teams gathered in Richmond for the second Showcase Weekend of the season, and there was plenty of good hockey on display. Catch up on all the action around the league with our Week 17 recap.
Greater Vancouver Canadians vs. South Island Royals

Greater Vancouver 5, South Island 0
South Island’s Lach Hadley opened the scoring, but Greater Vancouver got goals from Michael Matson, Kyle Ahlfield, Nick Marsh, and Tyson Lin to take Game 1 4-1. In Game 2, Alex Pescitelli, Eric Bourhill, Matheson Kroeker, Ahlfield, and Matson scored to make it a 5-0 win.
Fraser Valley Thunderbirds vs. North Island Silvertips

In Game 1, North Island’s Brett Kinley opened the scoring in the first period and Keaton Mastrodonato added another in the third period, but it wasn’t enough as Mackenzie Wight (2), Jonathan Stein, and Justin Hargrave scored for the Thunderbirds to give them the 4-2 win. The Silvertips responded in Game 2, with Kinley scoring a pair of goals and Kyle Pow and Will Norman adding two (2) more to beat the Thunderbirds 4-2. Zac McKee and Matthew Dyck scored for Fraser Valley in the loss.
Valley West Hawks vs. Cariboo Cougars
It was a battle for the top of the standings when Cariboo and Valley West met at the Oval this weekend. Cariboo took Game 1 thanks to the efforts of Josh Maser (2), Reid Perepeluk (2), Daine Dubois, Ethan O’Rourke, Chris Jandric, and Riley Coish. James Malm (2), Christian Bosa, and Michael Farren scored for Valley West in the loss. The Hawks bounced back in Game 2, holding the Cougars to just one (1) goal (Trey Thomas) and getting some offense from Malm (2) and Ben Evanish.
Vancouver North East Chiefs vs. Okanagan Rockets
The battle between the Chiefs and the Rockets proved to be the closest of the weekend. In game 1, Lucas Cullen and Hayden Dick scored for the Rockets, while Logan Bromhead scored the lone goal for the Chiefs. In Game 2, the Rockets got four (4) goals from Dick, Cullen, Eli Zummack, and Danny Gatenby to get the win.
Vancouver North West Giants vs. Kootenay Ice

The Giants got a chance to show off their offense on Saturday, with Justin Wilson (3), Jackson Shepard (2), Kyle Kaufmann (2), Jackson Leppard, Liam Kindree, Jason Village, and Josh Latta scoring to make it 11-0. Statistics from Game 2 were not available at the time of publishing.
The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
