The Cariboo Cougars (11-1) and Okanagan Rockets (9-1) continue to sit atop the MML standings after six (6) weeks, with both teams sweeping their respective series this weekend. Catch up on all the scores from around the Major Midget League with the Week 6 recap.
Thompson Blazers vs. Cariboo Cougars
The Cougars shutout the Blazers over the weekend, outscoring them by a combined score of 14-0. In Game 1, Jarin Sutton (2), Hunter Floris (2), Brennan Malgunas, and Brandon Rowley found the back of the net. In Game 2, Cariboo’s special teams were on display, with three (3) power play and three (3) shorthanded goals scored. Mason Richey (2), Jesse Pomeroy, Brandon Dent, Tyler Maser, Joel Patsey, Malgunas, Rowley, and Floris scored.
Okanagan Rockets vs. North Island Silvertips
Okanagan defeated North Island 5-3 in both games over the weekend, making for a close series. In Game 1, the Rockets took a 2-0 lead early in the first period thanks to goals from Coleton Bilodeau and Seth Barton. The Silvertips responded with goals from Grady Robertson and Jacob Gosling in the final five (5) minutes of the frame to head into the first intermission with a 2-2 tie. North Island’s Joshua Zary opened the scoring in the second period to give his team a brief lead, but from then on it was all Okanagan with Bilodeau, Jordan Robinson, and Rayman Bassi scoring to make it 5-3 final. In Game 2, the Rockets once again opened the scoring with Bassi scoring less than five (5) minutes into the first period. North Island came out firing in the second period, posting three (3) goals in a 10 minute span from Chase Heslop and Rick Takeda (2). However, Okanagan quickly overcame the defecit, scoring two (2) goals in the final three (3) minutes of the second period (Chase Stevenson, Brandon Della Paolera) and adding another two (2) in the third (Della Paolera, Wyatt Head).
Fraser Valley Thunderbirds vs. South Island Royals

Fraser Valley and South Island faced off over the weekend, and the Thunderbirds got the chance to show off some of their offensive abilities. In Game 1, Brendan Martin and James Vince scored for the Royals, but Nowel Maarhuis (2), Justin Plett (2), Dylan Debruyn, and Blake Bonnar scored for the T-Birds as they cruised to victory. In Game 2, Martin and Evan Easton scored for the Royals, while Plett tallied a hat trick and Brodi Stuart (2), Jonathan Rees (2), Matthew Dyck, and Carter Graham scored for Fraser Valley.
Vancouver NW Giants vs. Valley West Hawks

Scoring information was not available for Game 1 at the time of writing. In Game 2, the Giants beat the Hawks on home ice in Langley thanks to a game-winning goal from Cole Moburg in overtime. Trevor Longo, Hudson Schandor, and Matteo Pecchia also scored for the Giants, while Aiden Barfoot, Bryce Anderson, and Nolan Krogfoss scored for the Hawks.
Vancouver NE Chiefs vs. Greater Vancouver Canadians

Scoring information was not available for Game 1 at the time of writing. In Game 2, Emerson Kostner opened the scoring for the Canadians, while Liam Evenson tied things up for the Chiefs with less than two (2) minutes to go in the second period. Scott Atkinson scored in the final minute to give the Canadians a 2-1 lead heading in the final frame. The Chiefs battled back, with Juliano Santalucia scoring to force OT. The Canadians claimed the OT win thanks to a goal from Sasha Mutala.
The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the TELUS Cup, Canada’s National Midget Championship.
