For the first time in the history of the Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup, Team BC captured gold with a decisive 9-3 victory over Team Alberta in the Championship Game. BC’s Chaz Reddekopp (West Kelowna, BC) and Matthew Barzal (Coquitlam, BC) were named to the U16 Challenge Cup All Star Team.
Jansen Harkins (North Vancouver, BC) racked up four goals, including a hat trick in the first period, and an assist for a five-point effort to pace BC to the victory over the two-time defending champion Alberta side. Harkins earned Player of the Game honors for his five-point outing.
Taz Burman (Vancouver, BC) turned in a 33-save effort in goal for Team BC, who led 5-3 after an exciting opening period then added three more in the second period and one more in the third to capture the Gold medal.

The Western Canada U16 Challenge Cup features the highest rated players representing the four (4) western provinces (BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba) in the Under 16 age category. The exciting annual event is held through a partnership with the WHL and BC Hockey, Hockey Alberta, Hockey Manitoba, and the Saskatchewan Hockey Association.
