The Trail Smoke Eaters were chosen to represent Canada at the 1939 World Championship in Zurich, Switzerland. The Canadian representatives sailed through the tournament, only allowing one (1) goal, finishing undefeated to win the 1939 World Championship gold. The World’s would not take place the next year in 1940, due to the start of the Second World War.
The Trail Smoke Eaters would again represent Canada at the World Championship in 1961, coincidentally again held in Switzerland. Through seven (7) games, the Canadians would go undefeated, their worst result in the form of a 1-1 tie against the Czechoslovakian team. However, despite their undefeated record, the Canadians won due to goal differential. Czechoslovakia also went undefeated, with a draw against the Canadians, the two (2) teams sat tied atop the standings with 13 of a possible 14 points. The Smoke Eaters had a spread of 34 goals, while the Czech team was up 24.
The two Smoke Eater teams were inducted into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame together in 1994.
