Cecil “Tiny” Thompson was born in Sandon, BC in 1903 and played 12 years in the National Hockey League (NHL). Tiny played 10 of his 12 seasons for the Boston Bruins, finishing his last two (2) in Detroit.
In his first season in the NHL, Thompson won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins, during the 1928-1929 campaign. That would remain the only Stanley Cup he would win, but Tiny would claim the Vezina Trophy four (4) times over his career as the league’s top goaltender. Tiny was also the second goaltender to ever win the Vezina Trophy after George Hainsworth, who won it the first three (3) years it was awarded.
Following his playing career, he spent over 30 years with the Chicago Blackhawks as a scout until the late 1970’s.
