Ryan Walter was born in New Westminster, BC and played Junior hockey for the Kamloops Chiefs of the West Coast Hockey League, and spent a season with the Seattle Breakers.
Walter was drafted second overall by the Washington Capitals in the 1978 National Hockey League (NHL) Entry Draft. He played four (4) seasons for the Capitals, before moving to the Montreal Canadiens where he played the majority of his career, winning a Stanley Cup with them in 1986. Walter finished his career by playing his last two (2) seasons with the Vancouver Canucks.
Ryan Walter also won a World Championship bronze medal playing with Canada, spent three (3) seasons as an assistant coach with the Vancouver Canucks, and an additional three (3) years as the president of the Abbotsford Heat.
