Herb House was extremely active in minor hockey in the Lower Mainland, specifically in New Westminster. Herb founded the New Westminster Minor Hockey Association (MHA) in 1937, and was a coach, referee, division manager, treasurer and executive member with the Association.
Herb also helped organize the Lower Mainland MHA, and was a founding member of the Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association (PCAHA).
Herb was a BC Amateur Hockey Association (now BC Hockey) delegate from 1947 until 1978, and contributed to the constitution and by-laws for BC Hockey. Herb, helped grow the Mutual Aid program that was a kind of insurance for players injured in minor hockey.
Herb was designated an Honourary Life member of New Westminster MHA in 1969, and he has a Pee Wee provincial trophy named after him, and there is also the Midget Herb House Memorial Tournament held in New Westminster annually.
Herb House won the Minor Hockey Week Award (now the Fred Heslop Minor Hockey Week Awards) in 1961 and was awarded the prestigious Diamond Stick in 1957, making him the third recipient in the awards history.
