Team BC male U16 captured gold at the 2011 Canada Winter Games after defeating Team Quebec 7-4 at the 2011 Canada Winter Games. This was the first gold medal for Team BC using minor hockey players. Team BC won gold in 1979 with a team comprised of Junior B players.

Luke Bertolucci (Montrose, BC) scored BC’s first, and team captain, Curtis Lazar (Vernon, BC), scored his tenth of the tournament to give BC the lead.
Quebec cut the lead to one (1) early in the second, but BC responded with goals from Cole Sanford (Vernon, BC) and Sam Reinhart (West Vancouver, BC) to make it a 4-2 lead for BC heading into the third period.
The score remained tied mid-way through the third period with each team exchanging scoring chances. Quebec cut the lead to one (1) on a power play goal with eight (8) minutes remaining in the game and then tied the game with six (6) minutes remaining. Nic Petan (Delta, BC) scored with five (5) minutes left to restore the BC lead; this was Petan’s fourth point of the night. Lazar scored his eleventh of the tournament to give BC some breathing room making it a 6-4 game, and then added his third of the game, an empty net goal to give BC the 7-4 win.
BC’s Jackson Whistle (Kelowna, BC) played an outstanding game in net.
