The Prince George Spruce Kings were crowned the BC Hockey League (BCHL) Junior A Champions on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 with a 3-1 victory over the Vernon Vipers. The Spruce Kings swept the Vipers in four (4) games to take home the Fred Page Cup. This is the first time in franchise history that the Spruce Kings have won the trophy.
The Spruce Kings took games one (1) and two (2) at home with 3-1 and 4-1 wins respectively. In game three (3), the Vipers pushed the game to overtime, but Prince George prevailed 4-3 with heroics from Ben Poisson (Vancouver, BC).
Prince George advances to play at the National Junior A Championship in Brooks, Alberta from May 11 – 19, 2019. Last year, the Chilliwack Chiefs hosted and won the 2018 National Junior A Championship.
The Prince George Spruce Kings will be recognized for their championship at the Vancouver Canucks SilverSkate Awards luncheon on Saturday, June 8, 2019 as part of the BC Hockey Annual Congress.
