2019 Male U16 Provincial Camp Wraps Up
Saturday, August 3, 2019
The 2019 Male U16 Provincial Camp wrapped up today at Shawnigan Lake School with the completion of the final games. The camp featured on and off-ice activities that introduced the elite athletes to the most up to date information and concepts as they relate to both national and international levels of hockey.
The 60 players took part in a fitness testing session, on-ice skill sessions, strength and conditioning sessions and a series of mini games over the course of the six (6) day event.
Team BC Grey won the final game with a 5-3 victory over Team BC Red after beating Team BC White earlier in the morning.
Nico Myatovic (Prince George/Cariboo MML15) was the leading scorer with eight (8) points in the tournament.
The players invited to attend the camp were selected based on performances at the U16 BC Cup that was held earlier this year in Salmon Arm, BC. Following the Provincial Camp, selected players will be named to Team BC for competition at the 2019 Western Hockey League (WHL) Cup in Calgary, AB this November.
The BC Hockey Male POE is the second stage in BC Hockey's POE, exposing players, coaches and officials to short term competition. The U16 program also acts as a precursor to the Hockey Canada U17 POE which is used to identify and train players and team personnel for national teams.
