Jeff has been coaching with Kimberley MHA for eight (8) years and I'm certain that he has been a head coach for seven (7) of those years.
He is an exceptional head coach that runs great practices, can teach skills to all levels of players. During games, Jeff will always go over the game plan with players 45 minutes before the game (Pee Wee rep), and make sure all kids understand what to do. On the bench, he is a true example of a calm and fair coach, who will always take time to teach a player no matter the score or situation. All his assistant coaches over the years have learned a great deal from him. For me, his calm and respective demeanour to everyone who is involved in the game is what I have learned the most from him.
He has put so many hours in our Association, and I have never heard him complain about this. One last item that makes it great to be involved with Jeff, is his sense of humor, that helps keep all of us well grounded.
I really believe it is time for BC hockey to pick Jeff Keiver for a Fred Heslop award.
BC hockey should also consider that the following points about Jeff:
- He is an assistant coach for the Kimberley Dynamiters Jr B team. A great role model for these young players.
- He is an integral part of our local education system, as he is a high school teacher in Kimberley, specializing in French.
- He has been a head coach with Kimberley minor baseball for as many years as hockey. Also helps with all levels of baseball teams for organizing, as his sister Pam is the president of Kimberley baseball.
- He still enjoys playing pick up men’s hockey every week.
Picture is of this season with the Pee Wee team he is head coach of. Jeff is center, back row. The other two (2) young gents are Junior B players that Jeff has help in practices.
