2021 IIHF World Junior Championship Officiating Assignments

BC Hockey’s Mark Pearce (North Vancouver MHA), Michael Campbell (Cloverdale MHA), Brett Mackey (Cloverdale MHA), Nathan Vanoosten (Langley MHA) and Michael McGowan (Mission MHA)  have been selected to officiate the 2021 IIHF World Junior (U20) Championship in Edmonton Alberta this winter from December 25th, 2020 to January 5th, 2021.

Mark Pearce (33) is a Level 6 Referee with experience in the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL), British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), USport and Western Hockey League (WHL), began officiating in 1999 with the North Vancouver Minor Hockey Association (MHA). This is Pearce’s first assignment to the IIHF World Junior Championship with some previous assignments that include: World U17 Challenge, Western Canada Championship, Royal Bank Cup, World Junior A Challenge and Ed Chynoweth Cup.

Michael Campbell (31) is a Level 6 Referee with experience in the PJHL, BCHL, WHL, USport and American Hockey League (AHL), who began officiating in 2001 with the Cloverdale MHA. This is Campbell’s second consecutive selection the IIHF World Junior Championships with some previous assignments that include: World U17 Challenge, U18 World Championship, U20 Div. II World Championship, World University Games and Ed Chynoweth Cup. Mike Campbell was also recognized in 2013 as the BC Hockey Official of the Year.

Brett Mackey (26) is a Level 4 Linesperson with experience in the PJHL, BCHL, USport and WHL, who began officiating in 2010 with the Cloverdale MHA. This is Mackey’s first assignment to the IIHF World Junior Championship with some previous assignments that include: World U17 & U18 Championships, University Cup and Ed Chynoweth Cup. Brett Mackey was also recognized in 2019 as the BC Hockey Official of the Year.

Nathan Vanoosten (37) is a Level 4 Linesperson with experience in the PJHL, BCHL, USport, WHL and AHL, who began officiating in 1995 with the Langley MHA. This is Vanoosten’s second selection to the World Junior Championship, with his first appearance in 2017. Some other previous assignments include: World Junior A Challenge (‘07 & ‘10), Royal Bank Cup, World University Games, U18 World Championship, Memorial Cup (’13 & ’16), IIHF Men’s World Championship (’17, ’18, ’19) and the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Nathan Vanoosten was recognized in 2017 BC Hockey Official of the Year.

Michael McGowan (28) is a Level 4 Linesperson with experience in the PJHL, BCHL, USport and WHL, who began officiating in 2004 with the Mission MHA. This is McGowan’s first assignment to the IIHF World Junior Championship with some previous assignments that include: World U17 Championship, Canada Winter Games, Western Canada Cup and the Fred Page Cup.
