NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR BC HOCKEY BOARD OF DIRECTORS

January 16, 2026
For Immediate Release
Saanichton, B.C. – The BC Hockey Nominating Committee would like to invite all interested individuals to put forth their application for nomination for the BC Hockey Board of Directors. In 2026, four seats will become available for election.
The BC Hockey Board of Directors operates as a governance board that provides strategic and financial oversight of BC Hockey and carries out the fiduciary duties of a director for a registered not-for-profit society in B.C. to BC Hockey and our membership. The Board of Directors guides and oversees strategic direction, with BC Hockey members as a top priority. The Board also initiates and reviews policies, engages in evaluation of the organization, and works with membership to enhance BC Hockey’s governance capacity.
The search to fill positions on the Board is led by the Nominating Committee, which is an independent group of volunteers. They are responsible for attracting, recruiting, and assessing qualified, skilled candidates for election who are capable and committed to providing effective policy governance and leadership. BC Hockey welcomes candidates of diverse backgrounds, professions, and lived experiences.
As our goal is to attract the top candidates based on competency, candidates do not need to be involved in the day-to-day of hockey in B.C. Candidates should, however, be committed to the betterment of our game and to BC Hockey’s core values: Fun, Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence.
All directors are expected to exhibit the following personal attributes:
1. Shared Values: A demonstrated commitment to BC Hockey’s mission, values, and the advancement of hockey in B.C. and Yukon.
2. Integrity: High standards of integrity, ethical conduct, and accountability, including the ability to act in the best interests of the organization at all times.
3. Critical Thinking: Sound judgment, critical thinking, and the ability to contribute constructively to Board discussions and decision-making.
4. Teamwork/Collaboration: The ability to work collaboratively within a governance board, respecting diverse perspectives while supporting collective decisions and the boundary between governance and operations. Team player and consensus builder working towards solutions focused on BC Hockey's best interests.
5. Learning Agility: Strategic curiosity and a willingness to learn, including openness to new ideas, continuous improvement, and governance best practices.
6. Independence of Thought: Independence of thought, courage to ask difficult questions, and comfort engaging in respectful challenge.
7. Professionalism: Reliability and professionalism, including preparedness for meetings, active participation, and follow-through on commitments.
8. Commitment to Fiduciary Duties: Respect for confidentiality and an understanding of fiduciary responsibilities. Ability to always put our game and members' interests first and foremost, and personal or professional interests aside.
9. Inclusive: Cultural awareness, humility, and a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and safe sport principles.
10. Role Model: A positive ambassadorial mindset, representing the organization with credibility and professionalism within the sport community.
